What Is a DEKA Event?
A DEKA event is a timed fitness race made up of 10 functional workout “zones.” Each zone tests a different part of your fitness—things like strength endurance, power, muscular stamina, and cardio capacity.
The beauty of DEKA is that it’s simple:
You complete 10 zones.
You move from one to the next.
You finish with a time you can be proud of.
And the best part? DEKA is trainable.
This isn’t random chaos. You can practice the movements, build your engine, improve your pacing, and show up feeling confident instead of nervous.

DEKA FIT: 10 zones with a 500m run before each zone (this is the longest and most endurance-heavy)
DEKA MILE: 10 zones with a 160m run before each zone (faster, intense, and very “race-like”)
DEKA STRONG: 10 zones with no running (pure strength endurance and grit)
For our local Hampstead DEKA event, you’ll choose between DEKA Mile and DEKA Strong—two awesome options depending on your fitness level and goals.
DEKA Mile vs DEKA Strong: What’s the Difference?
Let’s keep this simple. Both events include the same 10 zones. The difference is how you move between them.
DEKA Mile includes short running intervals.
DEKA Strong has no running at all.
That one change completely shifts the feel of the event and what it demands from your body.
DEKA Mile: Conditioning + Pace + Transitions
DEKA Mile is for the person who wants the “race feel.”
You’ll complete all 10 zones, but before each zone you’ll run 160 meters. That doesn’t sound like much—and that’s exactly why people underestimate it.
Because those short runs keep your heart rate high the entire time. It becomes a game of pacing, breathing control, and transition efficiency.
DEKA Mile is perfect for:

It’s still cardio demanding. Don’t get it twisted—your lungs will work. But instead of the running intervals driving your fatigue, the zones themselves stack up and force you to manage your strength and endurance.
This is one of the best events for people who are new to fitness races because it’s straightforward and confidence-building.
