“ It's about developing confidence, discipline, and a positive mindset towards fitness and overall well-being.”
Introduction:
I have 3 kids. At this point in my life, and more than likely in your life, you care deeply about your kid’s future. What kind of wealth can you leave for them and what sort of habits can we instill in them to make them successful in life. Today, I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart: why it's crucial for kids to exercise and train with an experienced coach rather than just hitting the gym with their parents (parents can be great guides too) or buddies.
Let's face it, as parents, we all want what's best for our kids. We want them to be healthy, strong, and set up for success in whatever they choose to pursue. And while taking them to the gym might seem like a good idea, there's a world of difference between having a seasoned coach in their corner versus simply tagging along with mom or dad. Or worse sometimes, going to the gym with their buddies in crocs, socks, and sweat pants!
Here's the deal: training with an experienced coach isn't just about lifting weights or breaking a sweat. It's about so much more than that. It's about learning proper form and technique to prevent injuries down the road. It's about understanding the importance of mobility, flexibility, and functional movement patterns. It's about developing confidence, discipline, and a positive mindset towards fitness and overall well-being.
Sure, your kid might be able to bench press or squat a decent amount of weight on their own. But without proper guidance and supervision, they could be putting themselves at risk for injury or developing bad habits that are hard to break later on.
But don't just take our word for it. Here's some solid evidence to back it up! 👊
Research shows that working with an educated coach can yield significantly better results compared to going it alone. A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that athletes who trained under the guidance of a qualified coach experienced greater improvements in strength, power, and athletic performance compared to those who trained independently.
Furthermore, having a knowledgeable coach by their side can help kids learn proper form and technique, reducing their risk of injury both in the gym and on the playing field. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, injuries related to improper training techniques are common among young athletes, with overuse injuries accounting for nearly half of all sports-related injuries in this age group.
But perhaps most importantly, working with a coach provides kids with the guidance, support, and accountability they need to stay motivated and committed to their fitness goals. A study published in the International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching found that athletes who received regular feedback and encouragement from their coaches reported higher levels of self-confidence and satisfaction with their training compared to those who trained independently.
That's where we come in. At Breakaway Fitness & Performance, we specialize in working with kids aged 11 to 18 to help them get stronger, reduce their risk of injury, and develop a healthy relationship with exercise. Our team of experienced coaches is dedicated to providing personalized attention and support to each and every one of our athletes, ensuring that they not only reach their fitness goals but surpass them.

So, the next time you're thinking about taking your kid to the gym, consider investing in their future by enrolling them in a program with a qualified coach who knows what they're doing. Trust me, your kid will thank you for it.
