5 Ways Getting A Personal Trainer Can Make You Money

5 Ways Getting A Personal Trainer Can Make You Money

March 02, 20243 min read

1. Better Mental Acuity

Multiple studies have shown that exercise improves cognitive ability. In his book “Spark,” Dr. John Ratey shows how exercise helps improve focus, fight depression and make better decisions. A sharp mind gives a professional the ability to think through projects, and it gives the entrepreneur the space to develop new ideas or create a new line of revenue.

2. Increased Energy and Immunity

People who work out regularly are more productive at work than those who don’t, according to research published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. These same people miss less work. Physical fitness builds immunity and reduces many major health risks. Absences and decreased productivity can mean lost opportunities for advancement and lower income. Bosses often look unfavorably upon those who are frequently out of work.

A study in the Journal of Labor Research found that men who work out regularly make 6 percent more than their sedentary counterparts on average. For women, the numbers are higher. Women who work out regularly make 10 percent more on average than those who don’t.

3. Health-Care Savings

A 2012 study by the Journal of the American Heart Association showed a savings of $2,500 per year for people who got adequate exercise.

Taking this a step further, at BFP, we have routinely seen folks stop taking medicines on the advice of their doctors because their symptoms have gone away. This is usually after achieving body composition and health goals while working 1 on 1 with one of our Personal Trainers.

Some examples of medication coasts for 30-day doses:

Statins - $36-$600
Metformin (extended) - $235-$1,200
Xanax - $60-$100.

Most folks have health insurance, but are still paying co-pays on these drugs.

4. Reductions in Clothing Costs

You may spend less on clothes. The average adult will gain about 2 lb. a year from his or her 20s through 50s. What this means is that many of us have about three sets of clothes in our closets: What we currently wear and sets of clothes probably one or two sizes smaller. When our clients are consistent with their personal training sessions and establish good nutritional patterns with nutrition coaching, we see them drop clothing sizes or have their clothes fit better. One caveat: You won’t be buying bigger clothes, but you may drop some bucks on the smaller ones. But if you keep working out, they’ll likely fit forever!

5. Reduced Fast-Food Costs

Seventy percent of Americans eat fast food three times per week at an average cost of $12.50 per meal. Our clients who work on establishing healthy nutrition patterns with a nutrition coach or through personal training routinely cut that in half by planning ahead and preparing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks at home. An average savings of $18 per week is $936 saved every year.

If you can save from even one of those categories above, you could afford to pay a personal trainer nearly $800 a month! Think about it: Pay $500 a month for a private 1 on 1 trainer that could hold you accountable to being healthy and living a longer life or, spend money on drugs that are keeping you a float but not improving anything long term. In fact, those drugs could lead to you needing more drugs to cover side effects from the drugs you are taking for health!

All that said, we aren’t doctors. We can’t and won’t make medical advice. But with the potential cost savings, it’s definitely worth considering with your doctor.
