Before you train, what is something that needs to be done before you get at it?
Hopefully you answered “I need to warm-up.”
Let’s paint a picture of the current situation for a lot of gym goers and athletes. Okay, you come into the gym and the training session consists of back squats. Awesome, you love to squat! You’ve been sitting at a desk or driving all day and haven’t had time to get up to move around. Well, your glutes are probably turned off and your hip flexors are probably tight. Do you think it’s a good idea to go right into your training session without properly warming up? Heck no!
Don’t think of the warm up as something to pass on, because it will lead you down a road of injury and sadness. Think of the warm up as a way to prime your body for what you are about to conquer!
With that being said, there are a million ways to warm up, but if the objective is to lift some weights, then we need to prime the system. Think of it as “waking the muscles up.”
I want to share with you some of my favorite exercises for priming the hips and all you need is a band! Check out the video.
Here is the exercise list. 1 set of 15-20 reps of each exercise is a good start!
Banded Squats
Banded Lateral Steps
Banded March
Banded Hip Bridge
Banded Clamshells
