As parents, we all want to see our kids grow up strong, confident, and ready for the world. Especially as they become teens. Personally, seeing my now 17 year old have a solid base level of strength after growing up strength training has been amazing. The challenge is, today’s teens face more social obstacles than ever—long school days, heavy screen time, endless homework, and now even new school schedules here in Hampstead and Surf City that have thrown routines upside down. That’s why we’ve redesigned our youth program into exactly what kids need: personal training for teens. Primarily high school aged simply because of the bell schedule. We can however, because our programming is personalized, work with other ages as well.

Strength training is one of the most powerful tools we can give our high schoolers. Not only does it build stronger muscles and bones, but it also helps reduce injuries from sports or daily activities. When taught correctly by qualified coaches, strength training is safe and incredibly effective for both athletes and non-athletes. In fact, research continues to show that strength training is not just “okay” for teens—it’s one of the best things they can do for their overall health.

At Breakaway Fitness & Performance, we make sure every kid has a 100% personalized program. No two teens are the same. One may be chasing a starting spot on the high school baseball team, while another may just want to feel more confident in their own skin. Each plan is tailored to the individual, and we don’t leave them guessing—we guide them step by step with form, technique, and a progression that makes sense for their body.

To make sure progress is real and measurable, we run quarterly assessments. These aren’t just numbers on a page. We track strength, explosiveness, and movement quality, then use that information to update their program so it always matches their growth and goals. Parents love this because they get to see the proof of what their teen has accomplished, and kids love it because they can actually feel and see themselves improving.

On top of that, our sessions are capped at 10 kids. That means no one gets lost in the crowd. Every teen gets attention, coaching, and accountability. It’s personal training in a small setting where they’re pushed, supported, and encouraged.
